Where are you located?
In the mountains of East San Diego County, approximately 62 miles east of San Diego, California, straight out I-8, 2 miles south of I-8, on Old Highway 80, at the 4,000' altitude level.
What are the directions from San Diego?
Travel east on I-8, to the Crestwood Road, Live Oak Springs exit. Make one right turn onto Old Highway 80. Follow the signs to our "Tourist Info Center", two miles from the freeway. Entrance to the resort is on the left, at Royal Road.
What are the cabins like?
The cabins are two story, two room, A-frame cabins with balconies. They are about 500 square feet, decorated in country style, with fluffy comforters, quilts, braided rugs, baskets, collectibles and teddy bears. Each cabin has a free-standing, wood-burning fireplace, in-room Jacuzzi, queen bed downstairs, color TV, movie channels, microwave, mini frig, coffee maker and hair dryer. The Jacuzzis are about twice as big as a regular bath tub, holding about 80 gallons of water. Some cabins have a second bedroom up in the loft. The others have a sitting room in the loft. The cabins do not have phones.
Is the resort nice?
Yes. If you like a quiet, country atmosphere you will like it. The resort is not, however a luxurious place. Most of our guests love the mountain location and find it very relaxing and cozy. The Ritz Carlton, we are not. (And for the price, we cannot be beat.)
How far in advance do I need to make reservations?
Normally a week in advance for weekends, up to 2 or more weeks in advance for a holiday weekend.
I see you have different packages. Can I get a different package each night?
Yes, you can mix and match your packages, any way you like. You can also purchase therapeutic massage separately at the rate of $80 per hour.
Can I purchase a Gift Certificate for someone?
Yes, we do have Gift Certificates. It’s a great gift and we can do everything over the phone with your credit card. Just decide which package you want, for a weekday or weekend stay. We will have the certificate mailed or emailed within 24 hours. The Gift Certificates do not expire and your guest can decide which date(s) they’d like to stay and give us a call in advance to reserve.
Do you have a military discount?
Yes we do. It’s $79 per night Monday – Thursday, except holidays for the cabin itself. This rate does not include breakfast. This rate is based upon availability.
Do you have a corporate discount?
Yes we do. It’s $79 per night Monday – Thursday, except holidays for the cabin itself. This rate does not include breakfast. This rate is based upon availability.
Can I order a half hour massage separately, without the Sweetheart Package?
No. The minimum time for a massage is one hour. Additional time can be added at the rate of $40 per half hour.
We would like to reserve a Sweetheart Package but we’re bringing our two children. How would that work?
You can still have the Sweetheart Package. The children would be $15 each and that price includes their accommodations and breakfast. It would not include their dinner or massage. Our restaurant is open to the public so you can pay separately for their dinner and massage, if you’d like.
What activities are available at the Resort?
Outdoor activities include hiking and mountain bicycling. Our Country Broiler Restaurant features fine dining and cocktails, with a casual, country atmosphere, pool table, shuffle board and a variety of board games and puzzles. Nearby attractions include the Campo Train Ride, on Saturdays and Sundays, Desert View Tower, McCain Valley Park, the La Posta Casino, Viejas Casino and Outlet Shopping Center.
My company is looking for a nice location for its annual leadership retreat. Is your location appropriate for this type of thing?
Absolutely. Our mountain facility is perfect for retreats, conferences, parties, reunions and weddings of all types. Our staff is experienced and committed to exceeding your highest expectations. Our private conference room accommodates up to 35 people. We can customize our menu to produce the perfect meals for your retreat.
Does the historic train ride run everyday?
No. It runs on Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for adults.
Do you have the telephone number for the Campo Train Ride?
Yes. The number in Campo is (619) 478-9937. The number for the main office in La Mesa is (619) 465-7776.
What is your restaurant like?
The Restaurant is beautifully decorated country style, with fine dining, casual dress. Our menu includes steaks, chicken, seafood, cocktails, as well as delicious New York style pizzas, great salads and burgers, and a wonderfully romantic country atmosphere. We proudly serve the best food on the mountain. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
Do you have any shopping in the area?
Live Oak Springs Store, located on site, has a deli, gasoline and a small selection of groceries. Hours are 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. The Viejas Casino has an Outlet Shopping Center, approximately 30 miles west of the resort.
Do you have a gift shop at your facility?
We have a small area in our mountain lodge with a variety of candles, bubble bath, soaps, etc. and souvenir T-shirts.
What are your check-in and check-out times?
Check-in time is anytime after 2pm, check-out is 11:00 a.m. If you anticipate checking in late, after 8pm or 9pm, we can arrange for that. Just let us know in advance.
Late check-outs are not available but half day rates may be available on week days (Sunday – Thursday except holidays). The cost is $64.50 + tax, until 5:30 p.m. Early check-ins may be arranged based on availability. The cost is $10 per hour.
What is the charge for additional guests?
For each additional guest, two years and older, the cost is $15. Breakfast is included for each registered guest.
What is your cancellation policy?
Seven days in advance: “Cancellations must be made at least seven days before your scheduled arrival date. If you fail to show up, you will be charged the full amount of your reservation. If youdecide not to stay or if you cancel within the last seven days and call, the cancellation fee is $99.”
Is firewood included in the cost of the cabin?
No. However it is available at the Live Oak Springs Store and at the Restaurant.
Do you have no-smoking cabins?
We only have ten cabins so we request that guests do not smoke in the cabins. Absolutely no cigars or pipes. Guests can smoke on the balconies with the door closed.
What size are the beds?
Queen size beds downstairs; some cabins also have twin or double beds upstairs.
Can I guarantee my reservation with my credit card and then pay cash when I check in?
Yes. We will guarantee your reservation with a deposit or a credit card. You can pay with cash, credit card or ATM, when you check in, but we do not accept personal checks.
Are your mountain cabins secluded?
The cabins are not secluded from one another. They are duplex A-frames (in sets of two), about 500 square feet each. All ten cabins are situated close together, near the restaurant. The resort itself is rather secluded, in a remote area of San Diego County. The community of Live Oak Springs is a small village, which includes about 130 homes.
Is breakfast included?
Breakfast for two is included for registered guests. Deluxe Continental Breakfast is delivered to your cabin on Mon. – Fri. Saturday and Sunday full Breakfast is served at our Country Broiler Restaurant from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Breakfast is not included for “walk-in” customers paying a reduced rate.
We won't have time for breakfast. Can we have a partial refund?
Breakfast is included at no extra charge for cabin guests. Because it is complimentary, no reduction in price is given if breakfast is declined.
Do you allow pets?
Yes, we now welcome well-behaved, clean, pets into the cabins. The cost is $25 per pet and owners sign a pet agreement at the time of check-in (with the exception of Service Animals). A credit card imprint or $100 cash deposit (with the exception of Service Animals) is also required. No more than 2 pets are allowed in one cabin. Pets cannot be left unattended in the cabin.
